It's Easter Sunday and I realize most folks have other things on their minds and hearts...but with the upcoming setup in the Plains this week I decided it was time to begin practicing target area forecasts for next month's stormchase out that way. The target for tomorrow: Hammon OK, west of Oklahoma City and north of I-40. Instability, shear, and moisture all look decent for rotating storms even if the 500 mb flow is from the northwest. An early afternoon location in Hammon would put chasers within striking distance of a surface low in southwestern Kansas / OK panhandle, plus it is within an axis of higher CAPE.
Now, we'll have to wait until tomorrow's storm reports begin coming in to see if that's a good starting location!
